Commercial Use
Many organisations use RIPE Atlas to improve operations in their own networks.
However, in order to provide paid services, products, reports, or any other derivative based on RIPE Atlas data to third parties, or to incorporate RIPE Atlas data with other sources of data and package this as a commercial product, additional conditions apply.
The RIPE Atlas Service Terms and Conditions state the following:
Any commercial use of the RIPE Atlas Data is subject to prior permission by the RIPE NCC.
The RIPE NCC grants by default a revocable permission to all organisations that adhere to the following rules:
The organisation must accept the RIPE Atlas Service Terms and Conditions.
The organisation must acknowledge the RIPE NCC and RIPE Atlas as the source of any RIPE Atlas data used in the service or product provided by doing all of the following:
a) Including the RIPE Atlas logo on the product/website/report, etc.
b) Including a link to the website
c) Including this boilerplate description of RIPE Atlas:
RIPE Atlas is a dynamic, global network of thousands of probes that have been measuring Internet connectivity and reachability in near real time since 2010. Anyone can directly access the data collected by RIPE Atlas, as well as Internet maps, graphs, tools and analyses based on the aggregated results, at https://atlas.ripe.net. RIPE Atlas was developed and is operated by the RIPE NCC, along with the help of thousands of volunteers. The RIPE NCC is one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) that support the global operation of the Internet.
The organisation may not receive from the RIPE NCC any additional credits beyond what it would normally earn through the regular means of hosting a probe(s) or anchor(s), being a member of the RIPE NCC or another RIR, sponsoring RIPE Atlas or through a credit transfer from another RIPE Atlas user.
All measurement data generated by the organisation will be made public as part of the RIPE Atlas data stream.
The permission can be revoked at any time:
- From any organisation that stops adhering to the above mentioned rules or abuses this permission in any way; or
- From anyone if the RIPE NCC decides to stop granting this by-default permission
