Probe Geolocation
Introduction
Probes' geolocations are represented by latitude and longitude. There is some semi-randomness to the geo-coordinates when showing probes on public maps however. This solves the issue of some probes not showing up on the map (or more precisely, hiding behind other probes) if there is more than one probe geolocated at the exact same spot. It also provides a small amount of privacy enhancement for the probe owner. However, if you are the probe owner (or have management rights) and are viewing the probe detail overview, you will always see the precise probe location.
How to move your probe
When on your probe overview page (https://atlas.ripe.net/probes/{probeID}/overview
):
Dispute geolocation
If you come across a probe that you feel is very wrongly geolocated, you can dispute it's location (also from any probe overview page). Simply click on the dispute button and enter your reason and submit.
Note that you will not see a dispute button for a probe that has previously been disputed and confirmed.
Resolve dispute
If you are the probe's owner (or have management rights) you will receive a popup when visiting your probe page if it is in dispute, and you can resolve the dispute by either moving your probe and responding that you have moved it, or by confirming that the probe is in the correct location.
