Release of probe firmware 5130
In this release, we fix a NTP offset regression introduced in 5120, move to new registration servers with ed25519 keys, and add the openwrt-hwprobe architecture for the next-generation hardware probe firmware.
The following is a complete list of the changes:
All platforms
- Fix NTP measurement offset: a regression from the 5120 fix, it reported half the round-trip time instead of the clock offset. The RFC 5905 offset and delay are now computed in 64-bit fixed point, giving correct values for positive and negative offsets (GH-130)
- NTP: add a minimum gap between requests (default 4000 ms, bounds 2000-60000 ms) to rate-limit multi-packet measurements; the gap is skipped when replaying recorded responses (as used by the test suite) (GH-114)
- NTP: send the "RIPE" reference-id in network byte order so it is correct on big-endian as well as little-endian architectures
- NTP: remove dead code and a duplicate definition
- Fix
get_ether_addr()selecting a non-default interface (for example a bridge or docker interface): the MAC of the default-route interface is now used, read directly from the kernel (/proc,/sys) so it no longer depends on iproute2 or net-tools - Also support iproute2 (
ip) for interface listing, with net-tools (ifconfig) as a fallback, so probes work with either one installed (reported by Paul Menzel, GH-147, GH-148) - Use environment-specific SOS servers for SOS calls (used by non-functional probes, or as basic login measurement)
- Fix unknown architectures causing registration bugs
- Remove unused architectures and files (
debian-sw-probe,turris-sw-probe, staleDockerfile)
Hardware Probes
- Addition of the
openwrt-hwprobearchitecture, allowing for the next-generation firmware on existing hardware probes - Next-generation firmware uses a common base instead of a split-base approach
- Easier debugging of update files with additional checksum printing
- Fix bug in reginit for APP upgrade
- Parse the saved static network configuration (the atlasinit-generated netconfig files), so a hardware probe can boot without a reginit reply
- Addition of the
Software Probes
- Change default SSH key pair algo to ed25519 for Debian and EL
- Include the probe's public key in the registration URL shown after installation, so it is pre-filled when registering
- Improve the post-install registration information: clearer and color text
- Update probe registration links from apply -> register
- Update the registration servers for dev, test and production, with ed25519 keys
- Depend on
iproute2ORnet-toolsfor the official packages - OpenWrt: fix the
openwrt/package build (Build/Prepare) failing on OpenWrt 24.10/25.12 (GH-146) - OpenWrt: mark the probe, hwprobe and anchor packages as conflicting again, only one can be installed
- RHEL: add
libcapas an explicit dependency - RHEL: apply the systemd build dependency to all EL versions (previously EL7/EL8 only) and correct the EL8+ spec dependencies
- Replace the RHEL spec rpm build commands with modern rpm macros
- OpenWrt: don't reset the mode, config file and registration servers on every service start, only when the configuration changes
- Add
libssl3t64for Debian 13 (authored by Dreista) - Improve the Debian maintainer scripts: detect systemd gracefully and only call
systemctlwhen systemd is in use, drop hardcoded paths (systemd-sysusers), and detect Debian 12+ instead of 12 - Fix the changelog in the Debian packages being trimmed on Debian 12+, which broke
apt changelog - Update the uploaders in the Debian package control files
CI
- Add basic testing of package installation
- Add a probe-busybox testsuite job and a manual build job, and rename the lint stage to test
Other
- Fix typo in
HTTP_POST_PORTconfiguration entry (authored by Grant Slater) - Wrap the over-long
FEATURE_EVTDIG_DEBUGhelp line in evtdig (authored by Alexandru Ardelean) - Fix a missing header include in
scripts/echo.c - Clarify the anchor package purpose in
BUILD.md
- Fix typo in
